Softball Opens Season with Split vs. Howard Payne 1-10 (5), 3-2

KERRVILLE, TX: The Mountaineer Softball team opened their 2021 season with a split against the Yellow Jackets of Howard Payne winning the second game of the double header 3-2 after dropping the first 1-10 in 5 innings.

In Game 1, sophomore Malorie Solis got the bottom of the first going for the Mountaineers with a lead off walk. Solis was later brought in off an RBI double from freshman Danielle Pedraza for the only run of the game for Schreiner. 

In Game 2, Solis again got the scoring going in the first inning with a lead off infield single and was later brought in my junior Kennedy Moody. In her first career plate appearance, freshman Sydney Drott hit a solo home run to double the lead to 2-0 in the second inning. The Mountaineers scored for the third consecutive inning after Pedraza walked and was then scored by a double from Moody. Junior Bri Wodtke earned the win in the circle after throwing 6 complete innings. 

The Mountaineers return to action on Tuesday, February 9 with a double-header at 4/6 PM against the University of Houston-Victoria in Kerrville.
