KERRVILLE, Texas – Schreiner University women's wrestler Jania Dunigan represented Team Puerto Rico on the international stage at the 2026 U20 Pan Am Championships and Tournament in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, July 10-13, bringing home two gold medals.
Dunigan captured the 59 KG U20 Pan American Freestyle Championship before adding a second gold by winning the U20 Pan American Tournament Championship, capping off an outstanding week of competition. On her path to the tournament title, Dunigan battled through five challenging matches under an unfamiliar competition format, including a victory over the 53 KG U20 Pan Am Freestyle Champion. Her success also contributed to a historic showing for Team Puerto Rico, as the nation claimed both the Men's and Women's U20 Pan Am Team Tournament Championships. Dunigan's dominant performance continues to showcase Schreiner Wrestling on the international stage while adding another impressive accomplishment to her collegiate career.
Dunigan's international competition is far from over. Following the Pan Am Championships, she will remain in Brazil for an additional week to participate in an international training camp hosted by Brazil and led by coaches from multiple countries around the world.
She will then travel to Puerto Rico to train with the Puerto Rican National Team before competing at the Central American Games in the Dominican Republic in early August.
From Aug. 16-23, Dunigan will represent Team Puerto Rico at the U20 World Championships in Bratislava, Slovakia. Her international schedule continues into the fall as she is set to compete at the U23 World Championships in Las Vegas in mid-October.
Dunigan is also expected to return to Puerto Rico in December to compete in an Olympic qualifying event, capping off an impressive year of international competition representing both Team Puerto Rico and Schreiner University.
