Mountaineer Track And Field Continues Hot Streak At Trinity
The Schreiner Mountaineers competed this past weekend at the J.G. Gonzales Memorial Invitational hosted by Trinity University, turning in a strong set of performances across both track and field events.
On the men's side, Xavier Tellez led the sprint group with a 5th-place finish in the 100m (10.86) and a 4th-place finish in the 200m (21.89). Teammate Justin Britton followed closely behind, placing 3rd in the 200m with a time of 21.87. In the 400m, Justin Gooden delivered an outstanding performance, finishing 2nd in 48.28 and surpassing his own school record. Sean Dansby highlighted the distance events with a victory in the 800m, crossing the line in 1:53.45.
In the field events, Tyler Davis claimed first place in the shot put with a throw of 14.72m. Joshua Jamal set a new school record in the javelin with a mark of 41.24m, finishing 7th overall. Wilson Hammond also etched his name in the record books, setting a new school record in the pole vault with a clearance of 4.00m.
On the women's side, Kira Bufford competed in both the 100m (13.48) and 200m (29.40), while also recording a personal best of 4.51m in the long jump. Andrea Eckermann led the middle-distance group with a time of 2:38.04 in the 800m. In the distance events, McKenna Emerson finished 18th in the 5000m with a time of 21:05. Maria Bernhardt turned in a strong performance in the throws, placing 8th in both the shot put (10.63m) and discus (35.94m).
Overall, the Mountaineers showed continued progress and competitiveness as they move forward in the outdoor season.
