Softball Takes Big Series Against Ozarks

Game 1: Schreiner delivered a dramatic Game 1 victory, walking it off in the bottom of the 8th inning after a tightly contested battle all afternoon.

Locked in a 4–4 tie heading into extras, Schreiner found just enough offense to seal the win. After showing resilience throughout the game, the Mountaineers capitalized in the 8th as a baserunner came around to score the decisive run, securing the extra-inning victory.

Offensively, Schreiner pieced together timely hitting across the lineup. Erin Shutts led the way with a strong 2-for-3 performance and a run scored, while Isabella Stewart-Munoz added two hits and an RBI. Romy Nunez and Cambryn Holloway each drove in runs, helping keep Schreiner within striking distance earlier in the game. Zoe Salinas and Sarah Almazan each crossed the plate as well, contributing to the balanced scoring effort.

In the circle, Anyssia Mendoza handled the bulk of the game, going seven innings and allowing four runs (three earned) while keeping Schreiner in position to rally. Olivia Montoya came on in relief and shut the door in the 8th, earning the win after a scoreless inning and setting the stage for the walk-off finish.

Game 2:

The Mountaineers wasted no time setting the tone, piling up 12 hits and scoring in bunches to put the game out of reach early. Sarah Almazan sparked the offense from the top of the lineup, going 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a walk, while Romy Nunez delivered a big day at the plate with two hits and two RBIs.

Schreiner's lineup showed depth throughout, with Brinley Smith staying perfect at the plate (2-for-2) with an RBI and a run scored, and Isabel Moreno driving in a game-high three RBIs on two hits. Isabella Stewart-Munoz added a key two-RBI hit, and Elizabeth Garcia chipped in with two hits and an RBI of her own.

Patience at the plate also played a role, as Schreiner drew five walks, including two by Cambryn Holloway, who also drove in a run. Zoe Salinas contributed an RBI, helping round out a balanced attack that produced 11 total RBIs on the day.

In the circle, Olivia Montoya delivered a complete-game effort in the shortened contest, allowing just two runs on seven hits over five innings to secure the win.
